top 10 horror movies on netflix Right Now

This monthly updated list of the top horror movies on Netflix includes our favorite selections of what's presently streaming.

Modern horror lovers have both the blessing and the pain of having an unending supply of options. I've personally spent over an hour scrolling around Netflix looking for anything to watch. This is a running list of good horror movies that are currently available on Netflix.

10. GERALD'S GAME (2017)

Mike Flanagan: Right now, he's on fire! Gerald's Game is perhaps the director's greatest film and one of the few near-perfect Netflix Originals, based on the Steven King novel of the same name. Jesse (Carla Gugino) and Gerald (Bruce Greenwood) are on a romantic retreat in an isolated lake cottage when Gerald dies unexpectedly of a heart attack, leaving Jessie shackled to the bed with little possibility of escaping. It's a straightforward setup with a big reward, and Gugino keeps the tension and dread going all the way to the gloriously gory conclusion.

9. HUSH (2016)

Hush delivers with a twist! a nice, old fashioned, stuck in a secluded-house with a psychopath movie when all you want is a good, old fashioned, stuck in a secluded house with a psychopath movie. Maddie, a deaf novelist, is working on her manuscript in the woods when a masked stranger arrives with a bow and arrow and some not-so-nice ideas! Maddie must use all of her ingenuity to make it out alive while under siege and unable to hear her attacker's moves. Hush's basic set-up is handled with precise, sharp precision and squirm-inducing dread by horror hotshot filmmaker Mike Flanagan.

8. CAM (2018)

Doppelgängers are one of the most bizarrely terrifying horror clichés, and Cam is a fantastic contribution into the frightening doppelgänger canon. Cam accompanies aspiring camgirl Alice as her online alter persona Lola Lola begins to grow in prominence, based on writer Isa Mazzei's own experience. But, just as she's about to blow up, Alice notices that her video character is taking on a life of its own, crossing limits that she had drawn herself. Cam is a daring and unsettling look at what it means to lose your online identity, similar to Perfect Blue before it.

7. CREEP (2014)

When camera op Aaron arrives at a strange home in the woods, he finds Josef (Mark Duplass, who also co-wrote the film), a complete oddball who asks Aaron to spend the day shooting him for a movie that would be presented to his unborn kid (after he dies from an apparent terminal illness). However, when Josef's behaviour becomes increasingly weird, and his on-camera admissions get increasingly alarming, Aaron's hopes that he is only a harmless eccentric fade. Creep is followed by an equally superb and as scary sequel, which is also accessible on Netflix. It is found-footage gold and an immediate cult classic.

6. PAN'S LABYRINTH (2006)

In 1944, Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) and her unwell mother (Ariadna Gil) arrive at the station of her mother's new husband (Sergi López), a ruthless army commander attempting to put down a guerrilla revolt. Ofelia meets the faun Pan while exploring an old maze, who informs her that she is a mythical lost princess who must fulfil three hazardous tasks in order to claim immortality. Pan's Labyrinth is a grown-up version of Alice in Wonderland, combining the horrors of both reality and fiction into an astonishing, fascinating tale.

5. THE OLD WAYS (2021)

Christopher Alender's horror thriller The Old Ways released in 2020. Cristina Lopez, a Mexican-American reporter who goes to her homeland in Veracruz in quest of a storey on witchcraft, is played by Brigitte Kali Canales. The Old Ways is a demon possession film with a lot of depth that employs classic genre elements to create a unique captivating spell. Cristina Lopez, a Mexican American journalist, is taken hostage by a strange bruja, or witch doctor, who believes she is possessed by a demon deep in the Veracruz forests. Her battle for survival eventually becomes a battle for her soul.

6. THE PERFECTION (2018)

What can one say about The Perfection that doesn't reveal the film's totally insane, gory, and trashily beautiful joy? Very little, but suffice it to say that this drama of a musical prodigy (Alison Williams) and her adversary (Logan Browning) does not proceed in the path you expect it to, all the way to its deliciously grisly conclusion. The Perfection is a crazy adventure better left undisturbed, with more turns than Wild Things and no regard for taste or appropriateness.

3. UNDER THE SHADOW (2016)

Babak Anvari spends the majority of the film building a suffocating historical drama, a distinct kind of horror film that actually communicates the claustrophobia of Iran during its volatile post-revolution time. Under the Shadow is a declaration of resistance and a homage to Anvari's mother, who was born into a family that finally left the Ayatollah's tyranny. Shideh (Narges Rashidi) is presented as a brave heroine battling back against larger hostile forces in this picture, a horror movie trope that takes on even more significance in this environment. Shideh's defiance of the Khomeini government by watching a state-banned Jane Fonda exercise DVD is nearly as moving as witnessing her conquer her internal demons by saving her kid from a more physical one.

2. CREEP 2 (2017)

Creep was hardly a film that screamed for a sequel. The 2014 remake was self-sufficient enough, focusing on one of cinema's most peculiar serial killers a guy who seemed to need to build intimate emotional relationships with his victims before executing them as testaments to his "work." But Creep 2 is that rare sequel in which the goal appears to be "let's go deeper," rather than "let's do it again," as this film delves into the psyche of the central psychopath (now known as) Aaron (Mark Duplass) in ways both wholly unexpected and shockingly sincere, as we witness (and somehow sympathise with) a killer who has lost his passion for murder, and thus his zest for life.

1. HIS HOUSE (2020)

Nothing saps the enthusiasm of horror films like those that don't use the word "horror." Of course, movies may terrify audiences in a number of ways, but at the absolute least, a horror film can be more frightening rather than amusing. His House, by Remi Weekes, doesn't mess around. The picture opens with a tragedy, and within 10 minutes, it has out-grudged The Grudge by scattering spirits around the floor and up the stairs, where his characters may trip over them. Finally, here is a film about the inextricable pain that comes with immigrant stories, a companion piece to recent indie films like Jonas Carpignano's Mediterranea, which shows the risks that immigrants face on the trip and at their destinations with stark neorealist precision. Weekes cares a lot about Bol and Rial as people, about where they came from, what drove them to leave, and most importantly, what they did to each other.
